Dutch Design Collective at Indesign Melbourne

On 13 August, the Consulate General of the Netherlands in Sydney was part of Indesign Melbourne, with its very own Dutch Design Collective!

Indesign is one of the most prestigious design events in Australia and is organised annually, in either Melbourne or Sydney. By teaming up with local distributors of Dutch design brands, the Consulate General literally 'bridged the distance' between the Netherlands and Australia. This resulted in thirteen Dutch design brands being able to take part in the joint exhibition, which drew thousands of visitors to our Melbourne venue.

A special thanks to House of Orange for hosting our Dutch Design Collective, and to the brands and their local distributors HK Living Australia, TOOtheZOO, Van Esch, Carpet Sign (Envoy), Moooi (Spaces), Febrik,

Cascando (Stylecraft), Artifort (Ke-Zu), PROOFF (Living Edge), Jacco Maris, LINTELOO, graypants, inc. (ECC) and GlamXperience. It was great to engage with so many visitors and to promote stylish, smart and sustainable Dutch design in Australia.

The Dutch Design Collective at Melbourne Indesign was a follow up from a collaboration between the Consulate General in Sydney and ELLE Australia earlier this year. The Consulate-General arranged for Justine Cullen, editor-in-chief of ELLE Australia, to fly to Amsterdam and personally meet Dutch design, fashion and lifestyle brands. Ms Cullen's visit led to a special 'Go Dutch' spread in the February 2016 issue of ELLE Australia as well as the online article 'The Cool Girls Guide to Amsterdam'.

A key feature of the show this year was the combination of the in motion identification, facial recognition technology from Add-On APAC Innovative Solutions and Boon Edam entry solutions. The Boon Edam Australia stand displayed the new Speedlane Slide in conjunction with the camera and facial recognition software from Add-On. "The introduction of in motion identification would allow businesses to transition from the reliance on identification badges to a focus on more secure biometric technology.
