RNI, Pertamina and Toyota Team Up to Develop Renewable Energy

The state-owned sugar producer Rajawali Nusantara Indonesia announced another step in its partnership with state energy company Pertamina and Japanese car manufacturer Toyota in developing renewable energy from elephant grass. RNI celebrated the first harvest of elephant grass for its research on Thursday (06/10). "The discussion for this cooperation started in 2015 and then marked by a memorandum of understanding signing in 2016," Didik Prasetyo, RNI president director, said in a statement. The government has set a target of at renewable energy accounting for at least 23 percent of total energy consumption by 2025.

Govt needs additional Rp 791t for transportation projects

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi has said the government was inviting state firms, regional firms and the private sector to invest in transportation projects because it still needed Rp791 trillion (US$61 billion) to cover the financial gap. Budi explained that under the Mid-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), commenced in 2015 and lasting until 2019, Indonesia needed Rp 1.28 quadrillion to develop its transportation infrastructure, while the government was only able to allocate one-third of its total budget, or Rp 491 trillion, toward this goal.

BI: Regional Gov't can Control Inflation

Senior Deputy Governor Bank Indonesia Mirza Adityaswara, said that regional governments play an important role in controlling inflation rate. "Especially by increasing the food production output," Mirza said on Monday, October 10, 2016. According to Mirza, increasing food production is essential in controlling inflation because it has a direct effect in inflation rate in rural areas, causing high price of food products. Technically, Mirza said, the local government can do many things to increase food production output, including attracting investors to make investment in rural areas.
