Agro-processing industry grows by 6.39 percent

The agro-processing industry grew at a rate of 6.39 percent in 2016, beating overall non-oil-and-gas processing industry growth of 4.42 percent and domestic economic growth at 5.02 percent last year, the Industry Ministry data show. The industry grew by 5.82 percent in 2015. The biggest contributors to growth in 2016 were the food and beverage industry, which increased by 8.46 percent, followed by pulp and paper with 2.16 percent, wood products and handicraft at 1.8 percent, tobacco processing at 1.64 percent and the furniture industry at 0.47 percent.

Star Energy Closes Deal for Chevron's Salak, Darajat Geothermal Plants

A consortium led by Star Energy, a utility subsidiary of Indonesia's largest petrochemical group Barito Pacific, has completed $2.3 billion acquisition of two geothermal power plants from global energy giant Chevron. The transaction is part of a $3 billion takeover of three Chevron's geothermal assets in Indonesia and the Philippines. Chevron closed the deal for Indonesian assets on March 31, and it will appear in the company's first quarter financial report, Chevron's upstream executive vice president Jay Johnson said in a statement on Saturday (15/04).

Investment in Tangerang exceeds target at Rp 6.9t

Tangerang in Banten has attracted Rp 6.86 trillion (US$516 million) in investment in 2016, slightly above the target of Rp 6.60 trillion set by the city administration. "The amount of investment was 100.68 percent of the target," Tangerang Mayor Arief R. Wismansyah said on Thursday (13/4). He added that investment in the city would keep increasing, thanks to the quick service offered by the administration's one-stop integrated service. According to Arief, the administration offers on-time guarantees for the issuance of 44 types of permits. Last year, the city issued 22,105 licenses, including 3,803 licenses in the construction sector, 6,516 in governance and social welfare and 11,786 for investment.
