Fresh FDI approvals in Q1 surge

The new FDI projects are active in 18 sectors, with the manufacturing sector taking the lead with total capital pledges of US$6.54 billion, accounting for 84.9% of the total. Real estate comes second with total capital of US$343.7 million, making up 4.4% and the third place getter is the wholesale and retail sector with total capital of US$296.8 million, representing 3.85%.

Economic difficulties create opportunities for Vietnam

Many firms suspended their activities in order to find new directions or prepare new business plans, said Tran Ngoc Nam, deputy director of the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment. According to the Enterprises Development Department, the average registered capital per enterprise in the first quarter of 2017 reached 10.2 billion VND, up 30.9 percent over the same period of 2016.

Newly-established businesses hit six-year high in March

"It shows that the business environment has been untied, making it easier to do business in Vietnam," an official from the Ministry of Planning and Investment said. New openings in the real estate sector increased almost 55 percent from last year, while energy (water and electricity) distribution and education increased 32.5 and 28 percent, respectively.
