HCMC: Private sector to contribute 65% to GRDP

Household businesses will not have to pay any fees for registration of conversion into companies and all costs arising from their tax code registrations will be exempted in the first year. In addition, their staff will be offered training courses to improve their knowledge of startups and accounting while low-interest loans will be made available for them.

Q1 credit grows sharply

Unlike in previous years, credit had risen to a record high of 3.14% in the year to March 23 compared to end-2016, up from 1.79% in the same period last year, according to the central bank. The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) said on April 5 that first-quarter credit went mainly to production and business activities, with outstanding loans making up about 80% of the total in the banking system.

Thua Thien Hue attracts $2.8b investment in Q1

This year, the province expects to attract 20 projects to economic and industrial zones. To reach the goal, it has focused on administrative reform to create favourable conditions to lure investment, especially to economic and industrial zones.
Currently, the occupancy rate at Phu Bai Industrial Zone's phase I and II is 98.5 per cent. The figures at Phong Dien Industrial Park's zone B and Phu Da industrial park are 74 per cent and 42.5 per cent, respectively.

Vietnam farm firms seek high-tech

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Xuan Cuong said that the bottleneck of the agriculture sector was technology. He said his ministry was promoting connections with leading farming technology companies from Switzerland, the Netherlands and Israel as well as other countries with a developed agriculture sector to provide opportunities for Vietnamese agricultural firms to look for appropriate technologies.

Vietnam's economy will grow at 6.5% in 2017 and expand to 6.7% in 2018, according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB)'s "Asian Development Outlook 2017" report. The figures were revealed by ADB's economic specialist Aaron Batten at a press conference on economic development in Vietnam – Asia in 2017, which was held in Hanoi on April 10.

Vietnam's GDP growth is projected to be 6.5% in 2017 and 6.7% in 2018, says a report published by ADB in Hanoi on April 10. City aims to lead country in hi-tech agriculture

HCMC plans to establish three more hi-tech agriculture parks by 2020 with the aim of becoming one of the country's leading cities in high-tech agricultural development. The first hi-tech agricultural park in the city was established in April 2010 in Cu Chi District, some 70km from the city. A new park will be built adjacent to the Cu Chi Park, while the other two will be in Can Gio and Binh Chanh districts.

Reference exchange rate goes down 1 VND

The State Bank of Vietnam adjusted the reference VND/USD exchange rate down by 1 VND from the day ago to fix it at 22,320 VND/USD on April 13. With the current +/- 3 percent VND/USD trading band, the ceiling exchange rate is 22,989 VND per USD and the floor rate is 21,651 VND per USD.
