Koningsdag was a huge success!

On Saturday, April 29th, we celebrated Koningsdag at one of Vancouver's most beautiful locations: De Dutch Restaurant at Canada Place. It was amazing!

Participants dressed in orange were filled with enthusiasm and in the spirit of celebration. Bitterballen and Pancake Bites were enjoyed by all, along with beverages and snacks. Some attendees had their pictures taken standing in massive wooden clogs in front of a gorgeous, typical Dutch backdrop. Others played shuffleboard, had their Holland-fact-knowledge quizzed, or watched the video of Willem-Alexander and Máxima attending the Koningsdag celebrations in Tilburg.

Raffle prizes were awarded and gift certificates to De Dutch were given to each household. All in all, the event was attended by about 120 people and everyone had a fantastic time. We hope to see you next year!

Lunch: We will have lunch at Shady Island Seafood Bar and Grill in Steveston.

Cautionary note: As we will be cycling on the dyke and the terrain is hard-packed gravel, it is advisable to check your tires prior to participating and bring a tire repair kit.

Travel directions - from Vancouver: Travel over the Arthur Laing Bridge and continue over the Number 2 Road Bridge until Westminster Highway. Turn right (west) at Westminster Highway and travel along for ½ km to Lynas Lane; then turn right at Lynas Lane and travel to the dyke at River Road.

The group will meet on top of the dyke at the foot of Lynas Lane and River Road (not far from the Olympic Speed Skating Oval).

From Langley: Travel via the Alex Fraser Bridge, take the Westminster Highway exit, and travel along Westminster Highway. Turn right at Lynas Lane, shortly after crossing Numer 2 Road.

From White Rock: Travel through the George Massey Tunnel, take the Westminster Highway exit, and travel west along Westminster Highway. Turn right at Lynas Lane, shortly after crossing Numer 2 Road.

We look forward to seeing you all on Saturday. My cell phone is (604) 816-3243, if anyone needs to contact me on the day of the bike ride. Also, my email address is azylmans@telus. net.
