Indonesia Cocoa Industry Expects to Process Less Beans This Year

Indonesia's cocoa industry expects to process 360,000 metric tons of beans in both 2015 and 2016, down around 10 percent from last year due to a declining local crop and restrictions on imports. Cocoa processors in the world's No. 3 producer of the chocolate ingredient have in recent years relied on imports of beans from West Africa to meet shortfalls in domestic output. But government regulations issued in February stipulate that imported cocoa beans must be checked in laboratories in their countries of origin before shipment to ensure they are not contaminated.

Papua to see air navigation system upgrades to prevent more crashes

The government is mulling over installing more air navigation systems and upgrading existing technology in Papua in efforts to improve flight safety in the country's easternmost province. Speaking to reporters on Sunday (4/12), Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said both technical factors and human error had contributed to the high number of aircraft incidents in Papua, one of the country's underdeveloped regions. Jakarta-Cikampek II Toll Road Construction Begins in 2017

Head of Toll Road Management Agency (BPJT) Herry TZ said that the auction of the Jakarta-Cikampek II elevated toll road project has been won by a consortium led by state-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga. Herry said that afterwards, the consortium would only have to sign a contract to resume the project. Herry also hopes that the construction of the elevated toll road will begin in early 2017. BATAN Develops Reactor Simulator to Promote Nuclear Power

In a bid to support the development of nuclear power plants (PLTN), the National Nuclear Power Agency (BATAN) developed an experimental power reactor (RDE) simulator. BATAN head Djarot Sulistyo Wisnubroto said that the simulator is reactor simulation software describing the working principal of a nuclear reactor to generate power. "The simulator is designed to serve as a training program facility for reactor operator candidates," Djarot said on Monday, November 14, 2016. In order to safely operate a nuclear reactor, Djarot explained, reactor operators are required to undergo a number of trainings to obtain the license.

Indonesia Expects Trade Surplus to Rising in November 2016

Indonesia expects the trade balance to record a surplus for November 2016 as a result of rising commodity prices. Bank Indonesia (BI) projected last month's balance of trade may reach around US$1.6 billion to US$1.7 billion or an increase compared to October 2016 with a US$1.21 billion surplus and September 2016 with a US$1.22 billion surplus. Juda Agung, BI's Executive Director of Economic and Monetary Policy Department, said that improved export volume in manufacture sector has boosted trade surplus as well. He said on Tuesday, December 13, 2016, that the average increase in manufacture export in the past two months was 7% year-on-year (YoY).
