Seven-month industrial production up 9.81% in southern localities

The industrial production index of 20 southern provinces increased by 9.81% in the first seven months of this year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Key industrial products posted growth such as electronic products, apparel, footwear, frozen seafood, animal feed and rice.

Netherlands shares experience in developing cooperatives

Delegates from the Netherlands'Agriterra agricultural development support organization shared their experience in coping with impacts of globalization in developing cooperatives, agriculture and rural areas during a recent workshop in Hanoi. The country had 21,026 active cooperatives as of June 30, 2018, up 934 against the previous year.

Seminar discusses agricultural development alongside renewable energy

A seminar discussing the potential of solar power development in tandem with sustainable agriculture production took place in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on August 24. Antoine Vander Elst from the European Union (EU) delegation to Vietnam said renewable energy is now more reliable and cheaper than fossil fuel power, contributing to strengthening energy security and creating more jobs.

Vietnam Startup Day 2018 opens in HCM City

Vietnam Startup Day 2018 is wrapping up today (August 25) in HCM City, it has attracted the participation of 200 Vietnamese start-ups, and 20 international start-ups from the UK, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The top 60 start-up models will be chosen from 1,500 entries before being winnowed down to the top 10 outstanding start-up projects in 2018.

Binh Thuan speeds up agricultural restructuring

Accelerating agricultural restructuring towards national-scale, high-tech production has become a key goal for the central coastal province of Binh Thuan as it aims to reach an average 3.3-3.8% annual growth for its agro-forestry-fishery sector during the 2018-2020 period. Due attention will be given to developing agricultural products which have huge competitive edges such as dragon fruit, rubber, breeding shrimp, and processed seafood.

Hanoi launches website on safe farm produce

Consumers in Hanoi will find it easier to access information pertaining to the origin and quality of agricultural products as an exclusive website was launched on August 27. Nguyen Thi Mai Anh, Deputy of the Hanoi Investment, Trade, and Tourism Promotion Centre said it has been seen as a useful tool that connects producers with distributors and consumers via e-commerce in order to develop production and distribution value chains in the locality.

82% of tech staff want to get startup going

Recent Navigos survey sought opinions from 1,100 respondents now working in tech sector. 82% of people taking part in the "Vietnamese Tech Staff in the Face of New Technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Blockchain" survey conducted by the Navigos Group indicated an intention to get their own startup off the ground and more than half would consider relocation overseas in an opportunity presented itself.
