Freshwater conservation and technical solutions toward climate-smart agriculture: the FAME project

On May 6, the FAME project was launched in Tra Vinh and Ben tre. FAME stands for Freshwater Availability in the MEkong Delta. It addresses the reduction of groundwater use by promoting alternative technologies for storing or recharging groundwater. The project supports two IFAD projects that focus on climate-smart agriculture. Dutch experts help IFAD and the provincial authorities to realize an agricultural transformation towards greater sustainability. The soil of some areas are too poor for farming but right for water infiltration. It is the aim of the program to search for stretches of sand dunes which can be used for piloting groundwater recharge with horizontal tubes and innovative technologies.
